Honeymooning in Portugal With Free Stop Overs
Honeymooners traveling to beautiful Portugal can now take advantage of a free stopover in scenic Lisbon or iconic Porto for up to five days, thanks to a recently unveiled offer by TAP Air Portugal - Portugal’s award-winning airline.
The Portugal Stopover – started in July 2017 - initially allowed TAP passengers to transit in either of these two cities for up to three days at no additional cost. In September 2017 the offer was extended to include a maximum of five days.
You now can enjoy a multi-destination honeymoon and travel from one city and return from another. For example, you can start your honeymoon in Barcelona, then return from Seville and you’ll still qualify for a stopover in Lisbon or Porto on either the outbound or return travel. Stopover visits are now also available on one-way travel to Europe or Africa whereas previously, round-trip travel was necessary to qualify for the program.
In February, TAP added additional destinations that also qualify for this program, and now include the Algarve, Madeira and the Azores. Honeymooners can now visit Lisbon or Porto for up to five days en route to places such as: Faro, Ponta Delgada, Terceira, Funchal and Porto Santo for no extra airfare.
The program also includes a network of more than 150 partners offering exclusive hotel discounts for stopover customers, a free bottle of Portuguese wine in restaurants, and free experiences, such as Tuk-Tuk rides, visits to museums, or even dolphin-watching excursions.
Old World Charm
Still one of Europe’s best-kept-secrets, this scenic country on the Iberian Peninsula offers a magic you won’t find anywhere else and Old-World touches that are lost in most modern-day destinations.
In addition, you’ll be treated to romantic accommodations fit for a king – or queen – in castles and palaces at very affordable prices, throughout the country. Add to that excellent cuisine, world-class wines, friendly people and a variety of activities and you’ve found the perfect honeymoon haven.
Sun worshippers can bask on sun-kissed beaches along the Algarve, or play a round – or several – of golf on one of more than 30 courses in that area. Surfing, fishing and a slew of water sports beckon.
For history buffs, World Heritage cities are waiting to reveal some – but not all – of their secrets. Wine aficionados will enjoy a tour of Porto’s celebrated wine cellars and toast to your new life together after settling into an amazing hotel such as the Pestana Vintage Porto in the trendy Ribeira-do-Douro district.
If you start your honeymoon in Lisbon, be sure to check into the classic
Hotel Tivoli Lisboa before embarking on a tour of the capital city’s legendary sights.
When you’re done with “city life,” rent a car from the very reliable Auto Europe and explore other areas of this fascinating country. Driving in Portugal is very easy and highways are in excellent shape. Just be sure to have them include a transponder for road tolls along the way.
When your magical journey ends, drop your car off at the airport, taking home with you memories guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Just be sure to sign up for the TAP Stopover Program to qualify for all of those amazing discounts!
Boa viagem! (Safe travels).
